The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest - two thumbs down

In its written form, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest jumps from point to point as a thrilling narrative. Larsson manages to blend the leaps between the villains and the central characters of the novel with his usual page-turning grace. Unfortunately, director Daniel Alfredson and screenwriter Jonas Frykberg failed to convey this story on screen in an equally exciting way.

By eliminating major subplots and diluting the courtroom experience, they robbed the ending chapter of the trilogy of its exhilarating suspense.

Despite the film being not being engrossing, the character of punk-hacker Lisbeth Salander remains fascinating.  Noomi Rapace has personified this heroine with accuracy, which makes it difficult to imagine her in any other onscreen role.

I give this film 2 out 5 stars.  I recommend reading the book over watching this film.
