An Optical Illusion
I've been playing with an idea of a relationship being like an optical illusion one sees when watching a spoke wheel spin or a helicopter propeller turn. After watching it for a while, the wheel can appear to rotate more slowly than the true rotation. It can also appear stationary or spinning in the opposite direction from the true rotation. This is called the wagon-wheel effect or the reverse rotation effect.
Here is how it works in my mind:
Today I'll say to you
"Let's make a plight"
Take this propeller for a spin
An old bird in new flight
See rotors turning in reverse
So slowly now but fast at first
An optical illusion of a dream
Spokes spinning in a fortune wheel
Watch rivers spreading roads below
While birds and trees are whistling by
As eyes and fingers tremble thrill
Breath escalates the stillness of free will
The air is warm tonight
And fills our heads with buzz
Let's move with feline thirst
And make this evening ours
